The New Jersey State AFL-CIO today announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey, citing her strong record of public service, her deep commitment to working families, and her unwavering support for organized labor.

“Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill has always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with New Jersey’s working people,” said Charles Wowkanech, President of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO. “She understands the dignity of work, the importance of strong unions, and the role that labor plays in building a fair  economy. As our next Governor, she’ll fight for quality and accessible health care for every family, for great public schools for every kid, and to make New Jersey more affordable for everyone.”

“With a 100% voting record with labor, Mikie has fought for us in Washington, and we are proud to fight for her now. She’s the leader New Jersey’s labor movement trusts to champion workers' rights and deliver for all our families.”

The endorsement was unanimous and made by 500 delegates representing every sector of the labor movement and over one million union members and their families across New Jersey.

“From protecting collective bargaining rights to expanding access to apprenticeship programs, Mikie Sherrill has shown that she doesn’t just listen to workers — she acts,” added Laurel Brennan, Secretary Treasurer of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO. “She knows that when workers succeed, New Jersey succeeds. We are proud to endorse her campaign and will mobilize our members across the state to help ensure she becomes our next Governor.”

With more than a thousand affiliated local unions, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO represents a powerful coalition of public and private-sector workers across the state. Today’s endorsement sends a clear signal that labor is unified and energized heading into the November election.
